Celebrate during the Book it to Iowa City Bash

RAGBRAI riders, support crews and the community are invited to enjoy the Book it to Iowa City Bash on Friday, July 27. All entertainment is free and open to the public.

Entertainment Lineup 

The Jayhawks, from the Twin Cities, and Blitzen Trapper, from Portland, Oregon, will headline the main stage, and will be joined by distinguished Iowa City singer-songwriter, Elizabeth Moen, and Soul/Rock band James Tutson and the Rollback. The main stage will be located at Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue and entertainment will run from 4 to 10 p.m.

In addition to the main stage, a side stage at Washington and Linn streets will run from noon to 10 p.m. featuring a variety of local live music, a break dancing competition, and a DJ competition and dance party.

Yard games will line Dubuque Street, and FilmScene will host a a free screening of Field of Dreams at 8 p.m. in the alleyway by FilmScene, 118 E. College St. Bring your own chair! Movies will also play all day at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St., and the Senior Center, 28 S. Linn St.

Block Party Format

There will be seven entrances to the Book it to Iowa City Bash in Downtown Iowa City. Beer, in addition to wine coolers, hard lemonade, and hard cider, can be consumed within the confines of the designated eight-block area from noon to midnight.

A wristband is required for those consuming beverages outside and will be available at any of the seven entrances beginning at noon. The wristband is free to those with official RAGBRAI wristbands and $10 to those without. Wristbands are not required for those who are underage, or are not drinking alcohol. All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties.

In addition to the beverages available from downtown businesses, a tent will be located near the main stage on Clinton Street from noon to midnight, and will serve domestic and craft beer, soda, and water.

Travel

Community members are asked to pack their patience when traveling around Iowa City on Friday. Expect delays due to street closures, and heavy cyclist and pedestrian traffic. A full list of street closures and a map of the bike route is available online.

Parking

Visitors coming Downtown Friday are encouraged to park in the following ramps:

  • Capitol Street, 220 S. Capitol St.
  • Dubuque Street, 220 S. Dubuque St.
  • Harrison Street, 175 E. Harrison St.
  • Court Street, 150 E. Court St.

The first hour is free in ramps on Capitol and Dubuque streets. The PassportParking app can be downloaded and used for mobile payment at all City meters and some parking garages. To learn more, visit www.icgov.org/parkingapps.

Transit

Iowa City buses will offer free rides all day on Friday, July 27. The Downtown Interchange will temporarily relocate to the Court Street Transportation Center, 150 E. Court St., starting Thursday, July 27. Normal service will resume Monday, July 30. A full list of stop closures is available online.

Free shuttles will run from the campsites to Downtown Iowa City from 11 a.m. to midnight.
