With only a few weeks remaining until 12,000 RAGBRAI riders roll into Iowa City, volunteers are still needed to provide housing or camping to riders and to help with the festivities taking place Downtown.
Iowa City will be an overnight stop for RAGBRAI on Friday, July 27. RAGBRAI is the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, which this year will begin in Onawa on July 21 and end in Davenport on July 28. The theme is “Book it to Iowa City.”
Volunteer host homes are needed to accommodate RAGBRAI groups of 15 or fewer people overnight on Friday, July 27. Community members willing to provide host housing, which can range from yard camping to indoor sleeping space, should fill out the Host A Rider form by July 1. Host housing is most needed in areas of relative proximity to the Downtown District, where the entertainment will take place.
In addition, hundreds of volunteers still are needed to help make Iowa City’s overnight stop a success. Duties include hospitality, information centers, campgrounds, beverage garden, trash and recycling, shuttle assistance, and volunteer check-in. Shifts are three hours long, and volunteers can sign up for more than one shift.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up at www.iowacityragbraivols.org.
All volunteers will receive a T-shirt, which will provide access to the volunteer hospitality stations located at the main campground in City Park and Downtown Iowa City during the event.
